What if we started a blog fight club?

Okay I had this really weird thought on the way home today. It started out with a bit of silliness trying to think about a good blog post. Somehow I started thinking about fight club (not at all sure why, haven’t seen it in years) and it wiggled it’s way into my blog thoughts.

Next thing I know I’m paraphrasing the famous movie line “The first rule of blog fight club is, you tell everybody about blog fight club!”. Then I just started giggling at myself until suddenly I thought That could actually make a real, entertaining adventure for us bloggers!

blogfightSo let me explain a little bit about the way I think it could work. Let’s use a bracket style concept and say we start with sixteen blogs. Each blogger writes about the same subject but using their own style. They hold their post and don’t publish until told their bracket spot is active.

We pit say a newbie (1 year or less) against a veteran (more than a year blogging) and then publish the posts. We have a main page/post with each active head to head battle and have people vote for their favorite post. After the allotted voting period the eight winners from each bracket would move into the next round with a new subject and different opponent. This would happen until the finals when only one would become blog fight club champion!

I don’t consider this as a way to find the best blogger because it’s about the posts. Anyone has a chance to write a great blog post that catches the attention of their audience. In doing so and competing it could drive traffic to the blogs, give us some great reading material and hopefully gain everyone involved a few followers.

I figure the structure would take maybe a month from start to finish depending on amount of bloggers involved so maybe could have it twice a year or every quarter? It is just a thought right now but would love to hear your input and whether you would be interested. Any suggestions also appreciated.

    • By the standards I proposed in the post yep, you’d be a veteran. Still working and thinking about the actual workings though so any ideas appreciated.

  1. I love the idea, and I would be interested in taking part. I am blogging for less than a year, but not sure if pitting newbies against veterans would be fair. Not that it really matters, but someone that has been writing for a while has an advantage. Maybe you could have categories for each. Just a thought.

  2. Tyler Durden: Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don’t you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can’t think of a better way to spend these moments?

Me: Nope! Nothing else to do! Can’t think of a better way to flex those blogging muscles than a good ‘ole fight!

    Let’s do it!

  3. I think it’s a good idea, but it will definitely need a lot of organizing behind the scenes. I think your initial idea of keeping it between a smaller pool of blogs for the first go would be your best way to start.

    • I would definitely want to start small and build it up, get the kinks and bugs down a little. I’m not at all sure how I would pull it off yet but the interest seems to be there so I will be working on it. Thanks for the input.

    • It’s going to take some time to figure out all the workings and get together interested parties so you will have a buffer period. Thank you for the interest and stay tuned for info.

  4. *sigh* I’m going to get booed for this, but my impression of the original Fight Club movie was guys being unapologetically guys.
I was going to suggest a Blogging Brotherhood; some unfiltered yang masculinity to meet the much yin feminity that is here on the blogosphere. Please don’t misunderstand, I love my blogger homegirls, but everytime I see BlogHer mentioned, I think, “Well, the ladies have their space, but I wish the guys had theirs.”

Don’t reckon this opinion of mine will be popular and I get the impression this is not what you have in mind, but, there’s my $.002 (mills, because I doubt it’s even worthy of cents).

  5. Do you still want to do this? I’ll help – with whatever. Let’s just jump in the deep end – there’s always kink and issues you can’t foresee. If it’s amongst friends it won’t matter. You gotta start somewhere – mark, set, go!

What are your thoughts? What if you shared them?
