News on the what if writing challenges

A lot has been going on lately and I have not added a new challenge in the last few weeks. I do still have an active challenge for the month of January and I would like to see a few new entries before the deadline of  January 30th. It is a fun one with the question “What if you discovered a spaceship in your neighbor’s garage?”. Entries can be added using the following inlinks box and please return on January 31st to vote on your favorites.

I hope to post a new month long challenge for February on Monday February 3rd and then return to the weekly challenges the following week on February 10th. In the meantime I am opening the pingbacks and comments on all my former challenges if anyone missed their chance to participate and would like to go back and post a response.

Please add the tag whatifchallenge to your response to make it easier to find in the reader and add a link to the original challenge to create a pingback. So lets have a little fun and enjoy some what if writings. Make sure to keep an eye out for any new posts and visit these new responses or just catch up on any old ones you may have missed.

If you have any questions or need help linking a post please email your questions to

New feature. Month long writing challenge with voting.

I’ve decided to start a new feature with the What If? writing challenge. From now on the first Monday of each month I will post a challenge that remains active for the remainder of the month with voting open on the last day. This starts today with the first challenge of 2014.

Let’s pretend you were out for a stroll one day or walking the dog when you noticed something really strange. Upon closer inspection you began to realize just what you had found.

ship2What if you discovered a space-ship in your neighbor’s garage?

Tell us about what you found, your reaction to it or the events that come next. Have a little fun with this and once you’ve finished your post, add your link with the little blue guy below. Then come back on January 31st and vote for your favorite post. Winners will be announced with the February challenge.

Please add the tag whatifchallenge to your post.

Writing challenge for 12/30/2013. What if you were free from obligations?

Last week’s challenge basically had no takers so I wanted this week’s to be a little more enticing and wide open for a response. For this challenge I am asking

road-4538_640What if you were free from obligations in the new year?

You have no job to worry about, no family to be concerned with and no bills to pay. You are given a Platinum Visa with unlimited funds and no need to repay. What are you going to do with your newfound freedom and unlimited funds?

Anything goes in the What if weekly writing challenge. Show us what you could accomplish if you only had the time, the money and the freedom to do what you wanted.

12/23/2013 Writing challenge. What if you could mind control animals?

This week’s challenge is going to create a lot of panic in the animal kingdom. You may have a great power but the question is what will you do with it.

chipmunk-4588_640Okay, what if you had the ability to control the mind, the actions of any animal?

I know immediately what I would do. I would find three chipmunks, name them Allen, Simone and Thaddeus the fourth then get my good buddy over at Lemon Lime Follies to knit them all a sweater. Once I entered them onto the X-Factor as a singing trio I would be rich.

Anyway, back to the challenge. Let’s have a little fun and see what things we could use a mind controlled animal for.

12/16/2013 Writing challenge. What if you could rewrite your favorite Christmas song?

Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Santa laid an egg………..

frostyIf you know that little tune then maybe you see where this challenge is going. I hope we don’t break any copyright laws with this one, but it’s all in fun so maybe we’ll be okay. This time of year we constantly hear Christmas songs. On the radio, the TV, in stores, almost everywhere holiday music is playing.

What if you could rewrite your favorite Holiday Jingles?

Frosty the Snowman, Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, Grandma got run over by a reindeer are all in need of a little makeover. What can you come up with for these or your favorite/most hated Christmas tune. Give us the whole shebang or just a verse, it’s up to you. Let’s have a little holiday fun!

12/9/2013 Writing challenge. What if you could have a conversation with Santa?

santa-67122_640For this week I decided to use the time of year as an inspiration and I hope you will do the same.

What if you could have a  friendly sit down conversation with the main man of Christmas, Santa Clause?

What would you ask him? What do you want to know from Mr. Kris Kringle?

Anything goes with these challenges so how about a little fun. Whether you would like to know about Santa’s operation or maybe why you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas last year now is your time to ask.

12/2/2013 Writing challenge. What if you could hypnotize someone?

flat-35577_640Today’s topic came to us from a previous what if challenge post made by ZNJAVID from A Mom’s Blog and I thought it would make a great topic for a new challenge. So here goes…

What if you had the ability to hypnotize someone, anyone? Who would it be and what would you require them to do?

I always say anything goes with the what if challenges but lets try to use a little discretion and keep the posts within the confines of decency.
