Okay, What if you were a mug?

whatifwww

This one is so unbelievably whacky that I think I have surpassed even myself. Please note, for the purposes of this challenge a ‘mug’ refers to:

A mug is a type of cup used for drinking hot beverages, such as coffee, tea, hot chocolate or soup

as opposed to:

1.Slang for a fool or someone who will do anything for you if you just ask such open the door, run the shop for you etc.

2.slang for a face which doesn’t really appeal to you, someone ugly

3. Any other other use of the word in any other part of the planet.

If you are still unsure, let me confirm, this is the mug to which I refer and it will also be the basis for this challenge.

Mug

If you were this mug, which is essentially a blank canvas, how would you decorate it to let the world know it was in fact yours? What would you add to stop your work colleagues stealing it? What would be your catch phrase or picture?

The beauty of this challenge is that you are not even required to write a post if you choose not to. You can simply leave your answer in the comments. If however you do write a post, please don’t forget to link back to this post so we can all see your creation.

Get thinking and good luck 🙂

Wednesday’s What If? – New Writing Challenge 12/31/2014

It’s late on New Year’s Eve when you hear a knock on your door. You go to it and open the door to find an old, weathered looking man standing in front of you. Before you can ask what he needs he begins to talk.

“It’s time for the new but it can fall back. What you choose you should know will be a renewed track”

“I’m sorry. I don’t understand. What can I do for you.” You ask.

“The decision is not one you should go about lightly, you will continue on path both daily and nightly.”

“Okay this is weird. Do you need me to call you a cab or something.”

“Do not think of things as only a joke, when the calendar changes heed the words I spoke”

And with that the old man faded away into nothing. Was it all a dream? A mid-afternoon aberration?

Nope. It was all real. What the old man spoke of was the start of a new challenge for the New Year. On Wednesday I will pose a what if question I want you to answer. You can post and link back, upload a picture that fits the theme, write a poem or just leave a comment right here.

Wednesday’s what if is a free for all, no holds barred writing challenge to bring a little excitement to our day. There are no rules except to have fun and link back if you post on your own site.

Today’s challenge based upon the cryptic messages the old man was spewing?

What if you could relive any year of your life starting on New Year’s day?

The cryptic part of the decision is it would mean you also needed to relive every day of every year from that day on. So has anyone made a mistake they would be willing to relive their lives from a former point to correct. Anyone think if they had it to do over they could do things differently? Anyone not want to even consider it?

Whatever thought the question brings to mind you can let us know. Please tag the post whatifchallenge and add a link back to this challenge post.

Next Wednesday there will be a new challenge so please add your response before then. Happy New Year’s!

What if I added a new feature to the site?

I decided it was time to add a new feature to the site. A while back I did a post asking for others to send me their ideas for a What if topic and I would do my best to write a post based on their idea. It worked well and a couple fun posts came out of it.

Later today I will be re-blogging a fun What if post from a blogger who has been exploring her own what if scenarios on her site after finding inspiration here. Seeing her post about What if life was like the Sims? made me realize there are many subjects out there that could be explored that I don’t have knowledge to do. I have never played the Sims so I wouldn’t have any idea about life as a Sim, but reading someone else’s post about it was entertaining.

For those reasons I have decided to add a permanent feature where you can submit an idea for a what if topic or submit a post of your own. The feature is listed on the side of every page so you can get to it at anytime. This way you can have your post featured here on the site without needing to become an active author or editor of the site. Credit will always be given with your name and blog listed unless you wish to remain anonymous. You can choose to publish your post on your own blog before submitting or re-blog the post from this sight once published here.

I hope to see some new great ideas and fun posts from this feature. Let’s see just how random we can get with a scenario started by a what if? Thank you to everyone for reading and being along for the ride.

What if you got sucked into your blog?

iphone-338961_150Just imagine you are at your laptop, your smartphone or whatever device you use and one of your favorite blogs graces the screen. You are reading, maybe laughing a bit, maybe cringing at the thoughts produced, you are enjoying your time in the blogging world. Then suddenly a blast of light from your device envelops you and everything goes dark.

You awake a bit groggy, disoriented and upon looking at your surroundings it only gets worse. Around all you can see is words, pictures, cartoons, rows of faces and lists galore. What has happened and where are you. You begin walking until you bump into a large button that reads follow. Wait, are you inside your own blog?

How did this happen? How do you get out? You think “I can’t be stuck in the blogging world, I’ve got too much to do. How can I type my post if I am a part of them?” Then again, this could be fun. You might be able to find the inside track on blogging, quite literally.

So where should you begin? You decide to make the climb to the top of the page and see if you can change the current surroundings, after all you already know what’s on your own page. Where to check out first? You decide to head to the daily post and see what might be happening over there.

It works! You are now a blogging traveler, able to make the jump from one to the next with ease. The term blog-hop is taking on a whole new meaning. You begin to realize just how alive the stories on these blogs are as they take form around you. The posts, the thoughts, the fiction were always entertaining, but now they become enchanting.

railroad-166535_150Cars crash right in front of you, the werewolves howl so loud it is almost deafening and the vacation you always wanted to take seems to be happening all around. The animals talk while you listen and the tears flow as you watch the sadness unfold. The world is yours and you can travel wherever your will takes you. You have fun bouncing from one post to the next and you always try to remember to bound upon the like button.

Look out, that pingback almost hit you as it passed!

It’s getting dangerous around here. You need to be more careful. Most blogs are harmless, only there to entertain but if you end up on one that wants to trap you it could be the end. There may be no escape. Then there is the spam to consider. These blogs are crawling with it. You have to work around it and at the same time hope the spam filter doesn’t mistake you and boot you out.

Maybe it’s time you found the way back to the outside land. As fun and entertaining as all these blogs are there is too much to keep you busy in the real world. If you stay stuck inside the blog there may be nothing to inspire your next post.

Where would you go if you were sucked into the blogging universe? How would you spend your time? Can you imagine being a part of the stories? A virtual wonderland to navigate as you wished.

What if I survived an entire year of blogging?

Yes folks. It’s been a full year since I joined the blogosphere with an idea. An idea about the possibility of the what if’s of the world. Who knew I could be here a full year later and still be coming up with new ideas for posts?

Granted it’s been a little slow around here lately, but that’s because of a few things keeping me busy in my personal life and not a mental block or lack of ideas. Believe me they still come to me daily, I just need the time and energy to share them. Hopefully that will pick up soon.

00-30-55-141_150All in all I am quite proud of what this site has become. I have enjoyed the interactions with other bloggers I now call friends and seeing how they react to my what if scenarios and even enjoying some of theirs. I have used the experience I learned here to launch two other blogs I also enjoy. I have reached deep inside myself and found a part of me I didn’t know still existed.

This other me is the creative one. He has been extremely grateful to have found a place to share his poems, short stories and just random thoughts. In the last 365 days there has been nearly 300 posts, over 20000 views and more than 2500 comments made on the blog. I would have laughed at the start if someone told me a year later these stats would be true.

Over the next few days I will reshare a few of my first posts along with a couple of my favorites. I hope to continue to grow the world of What if’s long into the future while keeping the ideas fresh, creative and sometimes maybe a bit weird. Thanks to all those who have come along for the ride so far and I look forward to entertaining many more in the future.

I have already had a couple great bloggers join in to share their what if ideas here on the site and I would gladly accept a few more into the family. If you have any thoughts or ideas you think could make a great post or think you could contribute to the site please let me know at thoughts@okaywhatif.com or thenotoriousjed@gmail.com.

What if we started a Blog Fight Club? Part Two

Okay I received a lot of positive response to my initial idea to start a blog fight club. I have done a little behind the scenes work and a little more thinking on the subject.

I picked up the blog name http://blogfightclub.wordpress.com and have done an initial layout. I plan to lose the wordpress part but the money just won’t allow it right now and I’m nowhere near ready for launch.

My initial idea for bracketed type challenges is still a good possibility, but I have also been thinking about the possibility of blogger challenging blogger to a blog-off. Maybe a debate style head to head matchup about a particular subject with one side for and one side against. The fight could be announced and promoted on blog Fight Club and then each blogger post on their own site.

There is also a possibility of picking two comparable subjects and having bloggers pick sides until a winner is announced. I participated in a tug of war on The Matticus Kingdom between Marvel Comics and DC a few months back that worked this way. It was a lot of fun and could work on this new site as well.

Just a few more ideas I have been working on. If you have any of your own please let me know. If you want to step over and check out the layout of the new blog you can, just know it is in a construction phase.

I will add another update when I have more info or any decisions have been made. Thank you to everyone for their support.

What if I highlighted a couple new blogs for you?

I don’t normally do this but seeing as the What if thought juice was running a little dry this week (I couldn’t quite get a regular post written) I figured why not! I have a couple brand new blogs to tell you about.

First off I need to introduce you to a Fictionally Fabulous Character created by our very own Indecisive Eeejit. May Dupp had so much spirit she worked her way right into her very own blog. Please take a minute to visit The Misadventures of May Dupp and show her some follower love!

Next is a creation from my own mind. I have been known to, on occasion, go on a ranting fit. If I find the right thing I can easily let out a few sentences about just how much it has annoyed me. The problem is I normally either don’t say it or just mumble it under my breath. So I figured, why not say it on a blog!

Please head over and join the ranting on The Ranting Never Stops. I want it to be not only my place to go and rant, but a place for others to share their rants as well. You can be a follower and just enjoy the rants or be a contributor and share yours. Just check out the contact page to find out how. angry-mob1

A couple new places to get your chills and thrills, or to just enjoy a fun blog post. Thanks for stopping in and please check out these new sites.
