What if real life was Twitter-tweeted?

140 characters. Most anyone who uses social media knows what that statement represents. It’s all you get to say what you want in a tweet. Make it mean something!

So what if this feature took over in life. Communication made short and sweet.

  • Conversations would never be one sided again
  • Essays would be so much simpler
  • Lectures would be more bearable

Just think of the time that could be saved. It would be so much tougher to trick or con someone with those few characters.

  • Car salesmen would need to greatly change tactics
  • No one could tip toe around the truth
  • The talkative stranger on the Subway would be a bit less annoying

Granted telling stories would be a bit tougher but the challenge might be fun.

  • War is hell. Been there, done that. Still have nightmares. (Done – 79 characters)
  • Zombie ate everyone else’s brains. I escaped but it’s still out there. (Done – 91 characters and left open for a sequel)
  • Losers banded together. Lots of heart and they triumphed over the team of bullies with the crazed coach. (Done – 104 characters)

Yep, that was a lot of fun. I didn’t realize I was such a good writer. I know, maybe I used a couple stories that seem similar to some you may have heard before but I swear it’s my own original content.

What changes do you see in this Twitter based land? Do you have a story you would like to share? Remember it needs to be characters or less. It’s fun and I look forward to see what others come up with. I’m sure there are plenty better than mine.

Let’s start a hashtag for it. Maybe #fullstorytweet . I looked it up and didn’t find any others using this hashtag so I think it will work.

Please check out and share on twitter or facebook and let’s see how many we can get involved.

What if you got sucked into your blog?

iphone-338961_150Just imagine you are at your laptop, your smartphone or whatever device you use and one of your favorite blogs graces the screen. You are reading, maybe laughing a bit, maybe cringing at the thoughts produced, you are enjoying your time in the blogging world. Then suddenly a blast of light from your device envelops you and everything goes dark.

You awake a bit groggy, disoriented and upon looking at your surroundings it only gets worse. Around all you can see is words, pictures, cartoons, rows of faces and lists galore. What has happened and where are you. You begin walking until you bump into a large button that reads follow. Wait, are you inside your own blog?

How did this happen? How do you get out? You think “I can’t be stuck in the blogging world, I’ve got too much to do. How can I type my post if I am a part of them?” Then again, this could be fun. You might be able to find the inside track on blogging, quite literally.

So where should you begin? You decide to make the climb to the top of the page and see if you can change the current surroundings, after all you already know what’s on your own page. Where to check out first? You decide to head to the daily post and see what might be happening over there.

It works! You are now a blogging traveler, able to make the jump from one to the next with ease. The term blog-hop is taking on a whole new meaning. You begin to realize just how alive the stories on these blogs are as they take form around you. The posts, the thoughts, the fiction were always entertaining, but now they become enchanting.

railroad-166535_150Cars crash right in front of you, the werewolves howl so loud it is almost deafening and the vacation you always wanted to take seems to be happening all around. The animals talk while you listen and the tears flow as you watch the sadness unfold. The world is yours and you can travel wherever your will takes you. You have fun bouncing from one post to the next and you always try to remember to bound upon the like button.

Look out, that pingback almost hit you as it passed!

It’s getting dangerous around here. You need to be more careful. Most blogs are harmless, only there to entertain but if you end up on one that wants to trap you it could be the end. There may be no escape. Then there is the spam to consider. These blogs are crawling with it. You have to work around it and at the same time hope the spam filter doesn’t mistake you and boot you out.

Maybe it’s time you found the way back to the outside land. As fun and entertaining as all these blogs are there is too much to keep you busy in the real world. If you stay stuck inside the blog there may be nothing to inspire your next post.

Where would you go if you were sucked into the blogging universe? How would you spend your time? Can you imagine being a part of the stories? A virtual wonderland to navigate as you wished.

What if I survived an entire year of blogging?

Yes folks. It’s been a full year since I joined the blogosphere with an idea. An idea about the possibility of the what if’s of the world. Who knew I could be here a full year later and still be coming up with new ideas for posts?

Granted it’s been a little slow around here lately, but that’s because of a few things keeping me busy in my personal life and not a mental block or lack of ideas. Believe me they still come to me daily, I just need the time and energy to share them. Hopefully that will pick up soon.

00-30-55-141_150All in all I am quite proud of what this site has become. I have enjoyed the interactions with other bloggers I now call friends and seeing how they react to my what if scenarios and even enjoying some of theirs. I have used the experience I learned here to launch two other blogs I also enjoy. I have reached deep inside myself and found a part of me I didn’t know still existed.

This other me is the creative one. He has been extremely grateful to have found a place to share his poems, short stories and just random thoughts. In the last 365 days there has been nearly 300 posts, over 20000 views and more than 2500 comments made on the blog. I would have laughed at the start if someone told me a year later these stats would be true.

Over the next few days I will reshare a few of my first posts along with a couple of my favorites. I hope to continue to grow the world of What if’s long into the future while keeping the ideas fresh, creative and sometimes maybe a bit weird. Thanks to all those who have come along for the ride so far and I look forward to entertaining many more in the future.

I have already had a couple great bloggers join in to share their what if ideas here on the site and I would gladly accept a few more into the family. If you have any thoughts or ideas you think could make a great post or think you could contribute to the site please let me know at thoughts@okaywhatif.com or thenotoriousjed@gmail.com.

What if I highlighted a couple new blogs for you?

I don’t normally do this but seeing as the What if thought juice was running a little dry this week (I couldn’t quite get a regular post written) I figured why not! I have a couple brand new blogs to tell you about.

First off I need to introduce you to a Fictionally Fabulous Character created by our very own Indecisive Eeejit. May Dupp had so much spirit she worked her way right into her very own blog. Please take a minute to visit The Misadventures of May Dupp and show her some follower love!

Next is a creation from my own mind. I have been known to, on occasion, go on a ranting fit. If I find the right thing I can easily let out a few sentences about just how much it has annoyed me. The problem is I normally either don’t say it or just mumble it under my breath. So I figured, why not say it on a blog!

Please head over and join the ranting on The Ranting Never Stops. I want it to be not only my place to go and rant, but a place for others to share their rants as well. You can be a follower and just enjoy the rants or be a contributor and share yours. Just check out the contact page to find out how. angry-mob1

A couple new places to get your chills and thrills, or to just enjoy a fun blog post. Thanks for stopping in and please check out these new sites.

What if you could choose a birthday present for me?

recreation-25737_150You have two days to make your choice. If you could think of anything to give to the blogger who brings a little humor and entertainment into the world through this site ,Okay, What If?, JED’s Playhouse and the recently launched Multiverse Fiction Challenge what would you choose?

I expect something really nice, especially since it is going to be a blogging world gift only and its for the big 4-0. I don’t think I have ever revealed my true identity (or should I say alter-ego or maybe secret identity to make it sound even cooler) so you don’t need to worry about shipping charges or where to send it, just tell me what you think I deserve. Please be nice about it though. I am a bit stressed already from gaining a new number at the beginning of my age and not just the end.

baby-25388_150A little about me to help you choose. I have a loving wife I enjoy spending lots of time with and our family includes a total of three dogs and a cat. I’m a guy who likes a lot of silly things including comic books, horror movies and cartoons. You will probably never catch me on a motorcycle or in a speed boat but I enjoy the occasional nature walk. I love watching sports and am a pretty big Red Sox fan and NASCAR enthusiast.

The big birthday bash is going to start tomorrow night at about six. The get together will include hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, ice cream, cake and a few alcoholic beverages. Please be prepared to watch me stumble around drunkenly after the 9 o’clock hour. Bring your own barf bag if you are unable to maintain your composure.

So let’s hear it. What do you think a good fortieth birthday present is. Remember, these are the last days I can truthfully say I’m in my thirties. After Sunday I’ll have to lie about it, which I’ll probably do for a while.present-147168_150

News on the What if? writing challenge – Updates – The end?

The February writing challenge two-fer is still running and needs a little participation. You still have until February 27th to add your link and tell us your take on What if you went viral? or What if you discovered a new civilization? Just click the link above and add your post to the inlinks link-up provided there. You can then come back on February 28th and vote for your three favorite posts.

After much debate and inner turmoil I have decided to suspend the What if? challenges once this one is complete. The past challenges are all still open and you can add a link to them if you see one you would like to do.

I have been trying to decide for a couple months now the best way to handle the decline in participants on the most recent challenges. It appears to me that they may be getting a bit lost or muddled up with the regular daily posts on the Okay, What if? blog. For this reason I debated moving them to their own blog dedicated only to the challenge.

After a little more thought I decided this too could cause a bit of confusion between the two blogs and may lead to problems separating the two. For this reason I chose to suspend the What if? challenges for now. Please let me say to all those that have participated to this point I really appreciate your support and the joy you have brought me and others with your challenge responses.

Since I have enjoyed the ability to put forth a challenge and read others takes on said challenge I do not want to give it up completely quite that easily. I have made the decision to begin a fresh challenge with it’s very own dedicated site. It is very similar to my former challenges but should have it’s own identity.

Please take a moment to pop over to my new challenge site Multiverse Fiction Challenge and hit the follow button. There is not a challenge up yet but there will be very soon. By hitting that follow button you will be among the first to know when it is posted and it will also let me know I have made a good decision.

Again, thank you all for your support. Please let me know if you have any ideas, comments or suggestions. I would love to hear your opinions.

What if I could roll with the punches?

I was reading comments today and I received one from a good blogging friend on my recent post What if I just wanted to scream? and he mentioned his hopefulness things were getting better. I just want to say they are slowly getting better. Today marks three weeks since I received the call my dad had passed and it sent shockwaves through my world. I think the aftershocks have finally quieted down and the seas are calming.

I’ve began my way back on my blogs having recently posted a fiction story I was proud of at JED’s Playhouse and my last post here was a more humorous one than I had done in a while and I enjoyed the response and comments I have received on both. I just agreed to take on a new exciting challenge submitted to me by Cimmorene with her Miss Nomer challenge. It sounds like a lot of fun so check it out and sponsor a contestant if you like the idea. You have until March 1st before the challenge goes live.

The family seems to be doing well. We are all still getting along and trying to check in on mom as much as possible. She is a tough woman who is able to handle most anything, but after almost fifty years with dad it’s been a change she was not close to being ready for. She is taking it day by day just as the rest of us and we are all trying to support her as much as possible without being overbearing or pushy.

I guess it’s a little like that classic song says

“I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down”

Then there is some random thing about pissing and I get confused but the part about getting up fits well. I just want everyone to know I am doing good and trying to roll with the punches, take life by the horns, get back on the saddle, dance to the beat of a different drum, ask not what your country can do – wait a minute. I think I got a bit off track somewhere.

Thank you all for the support you have given and stay tuned for much more to come. Thank you also goes out to my new authors who have helped keep the blog a lively place these last few weeks. Looks like there is going to be some enjoyable reads for a long time coming. What if you stuck around and enjoyed them?
