What if we were schooled every day?

Today’s daily prompt: fifteen credits states

Another school semester will soon begin. If you’re in school, are you looking forward to starting classes? If you’re out of school, what do you miss about it — or are you glad those days are over?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us LEARNING.

I long ago finished school and realized this recently when invitations came for my graduation class’s twentieth reunion. That was a bad day! I thought “what is this, I haven’t been out of school for twenty years”. Then I realized it was true. I really did graduate over twenty years ago. I spent the rest of the day walking around the house, staring at the floor, hands in my pocket and kicking at nothing, trying to keep my mind off of it.

The next day I pushed those thoughts out and replaced them with much better thoughts. I concentrated on how great I had it now. My life includes a good job, a home, a close family, a wonderful wife I love and pets I like most of the time. No need to worry about how many years since I sat in a classroom staring at a chalkboard. My next bad thoughts won’t come until next year when I hit the big 40 or as I like to think of it “the eleventh anniversary of my twenty-ninth birthday”.

But are we ever truly out of school. We never stop learning, If you don’t learn something new everyday, then why even bother leaving the house? I spend hours at work trying to find ways to do my job better, faster and with less stress. If this takes a little studying or some research then I have no problem doing it.

When I get home I grab my laptop, check my stats on this blog, respond to any comments then pull up that great little invention wordpress calls The Reader. No it’s not a superhero or villain, it’s the place to see all the great posts I missed while I was at work. Why do I want to look at that you ask? Because I want to be entertained, but I also want to learn, be inspired by others and discover things I didn’t know before I started reading. Sure sounds like school to me, except I’m not staring at the clock or the blond two chairs up.

School may be over, but class is always in session. What do you want to learn about today? Your chance may only be a follow away!

What if we no longer teach spelling in shcool?

Okay, what if we no longer teach spelling in shcool? Believe it or not, this is a possibility.

There is talk of dropping spelling and grammar from our school curriculum because everything is available through the use of technology. In my opinion this is a very bad idea!
